Ada Perlman, hailing from the rust belt town of Pittsburgh, PA, is a junior in Pierson College. A noted journalist, and the daughter of a noted journalist, she has broken the news on stories ranging from extended dining at Slifka to the death of Pope Francis. When she’s not pulling all-nighters in the dark halls of the YDN, you can find Ada becoming best friends with people she just met - and just maybe recruiting them to Magevet.

And although she is not ordained (yet) as a rabbi, Ada loves Torah study, and is even featured on the bookshelf of a certain Jewish summer camp as a recent rabbinic authority. An alto with a scintillating tessitura, you can catch Ada soloing at our next concert or belting out showtunes at rehearsal.

Hailing all the way from Champaign (did someone say Champagne🥂 🥂) in the great state of Illinois, Emma came to New Haven to explore what the East Coast had to offer. Here, she found the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life, home to Magevet, our very own musical group, which Emma gracefully directed for a whole year. But Emma's incredible ear for music doesn't stop at acapella. She also plays Klezmer, leads Niggun Circle, and frequents Shabbos evening zemirot. You could call her the Slifka music connoisseur, but that would be an understatement. Outside of her musical talents, Emma is studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology so she can (famously) tell her Jewish mother that she is "everybody's doctor" as she embarks on her journey in public health. She will tell this presumably to her father too, who is Italian (where the Donnini comes from). If you ever want to play a good board game in Silliman, find the perfect key for the song you're itching to sing, or feel the urge to talk about your religious crisis, Emma is your gal.

Years before she joined Magevet, Hannah was honing her musical craft. In her 13-year (and counting!) piano career, she trained extensively in solo performance and chamber music, won multiple competitions, and completed prestigious programs at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music.

Hannah was happy playing piano, but sometimes after a long and productive day of practice, she would hear a little voice in her head, whispering to her that something was out of place. When she listened a bit harder, she came to the realization that the one missing piece in her musical world was a group of 8-14 attentionally-challenged Jews full of strong opinions, diverse ideas of what “in tune” means to them, and shocking apathy for maintaining a sensible protein intake while on tour. That day, she joined Magevet, and while we haven’t received word on what the little voice is saying these days, we couldn’t be more delighted to have her here.

When she’s not making music, Hannah can be found putting her energy and talent towards an impressive range of hobbies, including keeping up her piano skills, running long distances, cooking up chef-quality meals (apricot rosemary scones with sliced almonds, anyone?), editing Jewish magazines, waging battle with the mice of Morse College, pondering changing her major (again), and, of course, performing feats of organization and planning that the rest of us can only dream of. She’s our perfect pitch with perfect pitch, and we’re always lucky to have her around.

Noam Barenholtz, a junior in Silliman college, hails from the great town of Teaneck, New Jersey, which sends quite a few Jews to Yale every now and then. Equally at home in physics and Torah studies, you can find Noam hanging out in Slifka or doing research for his physics lab.

Whether it be the mysteries of kinetics, Jewish mysticism, or even Jane Austen, Noam is the kind of person that will impress you with the cool things he knows when you strike up a conversation. Spot him singing bass at our next concert!
