A final frontier

In late-May 2024, Magevet plans to embark on an ambitious and pioneering tour to Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. Consider supporting us!

Sunrise over Sydney

As the capstone to our 2023-2024 season, we will bring our singing and our experience of Jewish life at Yale to the Australian Jewish community. The aim of this trip is to motivate dramatic growth in Magevet’s name recognition and portfolio of impact and contribution. Our target audiences are both the Yale student body as a whole as well as Jewish communities around the world. Adding to the energy and excitement generated by announcement of our Australia trip, we will be releasing a new album this Fall, which highlights the ethnic and global diversity of Jewish music.

We look forward to enriching Jewish communal organizations in Australia with our singing, where, as far as we know, no Jewish a cappella group from an American college campus has sung before. We also seek to engage in conversation with Jewish high school students. We have been noticing in our concerts on the road this past year that Jewish high school students are eager to hear us sing and then to talk to us about Jewish life in the Ivy League.

We sense that the growing interest of Jewish high school students in hearing from us about Jewish life at Yale is driven by their concern about antisemitism on American college campuses. Magevet is exactly the kind of student organization that helps us live proudly and joyfully as Jews at Yale, and gives us a dynamic platform for engaging the Yale community and Jewish communities around the world through our identity as a Jewish/Israeli/Hebrew singing group.

Establishing the Magevet Endowment

Nearly thirty years ago, a group of Yale students came together to create a community dedicated to celebrating the beauty and significance of Jewish, Hebrew, and Israeli song. Today, we are thrilled to announce the campaign to establish the Magevet endowment, and we hope that you will join us in this groundbreaking effort.

Magevet’s work has an immense impact on all those involved, and it also helps to ensure that the great diversity of Jewish, Hebrew, and Israeli music is preserved and shared for generations to come. To support this work in perpetuity, we hope to establish an endowment fund of $118,000 that will cover general operations and allow Magevet to spread Jewish, Hebrew, and Israeli music even farther—from New Haven to communities the world over.
